Enjoy a free fibre upgrade to FTTP

As part of the Fibre Connect initiative run by the nbn®, customers on an existing Fibre to the Node (FTTN) or Fibre to the Curb (FTTC) connection may be eligible to upgrade to Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) for free, which provides faster internet.

If your address is eligible, all you need to do is switch to our Platinum or Ultimate broadband plan1 and we’ll help you get set up.

How the free fibre upgrade works

With an FTTP connection, the nbn® fibre optic cable will be brought closer to your premises than your current connection, so you can enjoy faster internet.

An nbn® technician will install a Premises Connection Device (PCD) outside your home, and a Network Termination Device (NTD) inside. Once done, simply plug your existing modem into the new nbn® network device and you’re good to go.

If you're eligible and opt for the free upgrade, we'll book the installation with nbn® on your behalf.

Installation process

Pre-installation visit

The technician will assess the outside of your premises to identify any obstacles early and prepare for your upcoming installation appointment. You don't have to be home for this visit, which for most cases will take between 45 minutes and 1.5 hours. Complex connections may take longer.

For locations currently connected to FTTC, there may be a planned outage of around 30 minutes on the day while the technician works on the infrastructure on the street that connects your home.

Installation visit

The technician will arrive to install the nbn® equipment inside and outside your premises. You, or an authorised person over the age of 18, will need to be present to provide internal and external access to your premises. In most cases, this appointment will take between 3 and 4 hours. Complex connections may take longer.

If you're renting, make sure that you have the landlord or property manager's verbal or written permission before the visit. The technician may need to do work that will need approval, such as drilling into the property walls.

The technician will advise on the best location to install the nbn® connection box inside your premises. You can speak to them about your options. It may not be possible to have the new nbn® connection box installed in the same location as your original technology connection points.

1 You will need to remain on the Australia Post Broadband Platinum or Ultimate plan for a period of 12 months after your upgrade is complete.

2 Your experience, including the speeds actually achieved over the nbn® network, depends on the nbn® access technology and configuration over which services are delivered to your premises, whether you are using the internet during the busy period, and some factors outside of nbn®'s control (like your equipment quality, software, chosen broadband plan, signal reception, or how your provider designs its network).
